Types of Blood Pressures
Blood Pressure or simply B.P is defined as the pressure exerted by the blood in the circulatory system and is largely considered as a measure of determining the health of the same system. It is considered an important factor that is related to heart beat and the proper functioning of heart.
Blood pressure apart from the normal range, is categorized into two types.
Hypertension which is also called as High B.P
Hypotension which is also called as Low B.P
Calculation of Blood Pressure
Blood Pressure is usually expressed in terms of two values known as Systolic Pressure and Diastolic Pressure. These are the values of the blood pressure when heart ventricles contract and when they relax respectively. The ideal Blood Pressure of a person would be 120/80 mmHg.
Here is the classification of B.P depending on the values.
Here is the classification of B.P depending on the values.
Type of Blood Pressure | Systolic (in MMHG) | Diastolic (in MMHG) |
---|---|---|
Normal | 90 – 120 | 60 – 80 |
Hypo Tension (Low B.P) | 120 – 139 | <60 |
Pre-Hypertension | <90 | 80 – 89 |
Pre-Hypertension | 120 – 139 | 80 – 89 |
Hyper Tension (High B.P) – Stage 1 | 140 – 159 | 90 – 99 |
Hyper Tension (High B.P) – Stage 2 | 160 | 100 |
Symptoms of Hypertension (High B.P)
Usually, people who have high Blood Pressure do not show any immediate symptoms although if it’s not checked or controlled could lead to fatal heart disease or strokes. In some cases, people may experience anxiety, sweating, and sleeplessness though not consistently. It is hence suggested to go for regular B.P checkups as Hypertension is mostly symptom less condition.
Symptoms of Hypotension (Low B.P)
Unlike High B.P, people suffering from low B.P show immediate or at least consistent symptoms indicating the problem. They are
- Fatigue, weakness, and dizziness
- Nausea
- Rapid or shallow breathing
- Depression
- Lack of concentration
- Blurred vision
- Excessive thirst
Causes
Both Hypertension and Hypotension could be caused by certain factors that include
- Dehydration
- Blood loss
- Heart diseases
- Pregnancy
- Improper or Unhealthy diet
- Lack of exercise or physical activity
- Certain infections and allergic reactions
