Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is occurring mostly in reproductive age women with the ovarian expression of various metabolic disturbances. It is a hormonal disorder causing small cysts developed on the ovaries.

Through high levels of insulin in the blood {hyperinsulinaemia} in women whose ovaries are sensitive to this stimulus.

Multiple ovarian cysts are actually in mature follicles not cysts. The follicles have developed from primordial follicles .but the development has stopped due to disturbed ovarian function.

The follicles appeared as a string of pearls on ultrasound.

Mostly PCOS women have insulin resistance and obese. Their elevated insulin levels leads to abnormalities in hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis leads to PCOS.

Women PCOS an experienced increased frequency of hypothalamic gonadotropic releasing hormone which in turn results in an increase in the luteinizing hormone; follicle stimulating hormone ratio.
